1986 January Initiated proposal for compiling the Yonsei Korean Dictionary
1986 May Began collaborative research in lexicography
1986 October With joint signatures from 290 Yonsei University professors, the “Compilation of the Yonsei Korean Dictionary” project was proposed to the public and organized by the Committee for Korean Lexicography.
1988 August Published the first issue of “Studies in Lexicography,” the first academic journal on lexicography in Korea
1989 June Sang-Sup Lee,a professor at the department of English Language and Literature was appointed as the first director.
1989 June The “Korean Lexicography Department” was established in Yonsei University.
1990->1999 1990 March The first edition of “Yonsei Corpus 1” (comprised of 3 mil. words) was completed in Korea.
1992 September Yonsei Corpus exceeded 30 million words.
1993 May Initiated compilation of the “Yonsei Korean Dictionary
1993 September SukDeuk Kim, a professor at the department of Korean Language and Literature, was appointed as the second director.
1994 September Ki-Shim Nam, a professor at the department of Korean Language and Literature, was appointed as the third director.
1995 September Sang-Sup Lee, a professor at the department of English Language and Literature, was appointed as the fourth director.
1996 March Yonsei Corpus exceeded 43 million words.
1997 March The ‘Graduate School of Korean Language and Information Studies’ wasestablished.
1998 March Participated in the “21st Century Sejong Project” organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports andTourism.
1998 March The Korean Lexicography Department was expanded to the Yonsei Institute of Language and Information Studies.
1998 October Published the “Yonsei Korean Dictionary.
1998 December Initiated the development of the “Basic Korean Dictionary for Learning” (tentative).
1999 March Established the “Research Center for Technical Terminology”, as a cooperative organization with the Korea Terminology Research Center for Language and Knowledge Engineering (KOTERM) of KAIST.
1999 October Director Sang-Sup Lee was awarded the Oesol Prize.
2000->2010 2000 January Implemented a search service for the Yonsei Korean Dictionary on the internet.
2000 March In charge of the Special Data section of the 21st Century Sejong Project of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
2000 July Organized the First Korean and Information Studies Academy, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
2001 January Led the establishment of “The Korean Association for Lexicography”
2001 August Held the Second International Conference of the Asia Lexicography Association
2001 November Selected as a local cooperative site for SITEC, Speech Information Technology and Promotion Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry andEnergy.

2002 March Ik-Hwan Lee, a professor at the department of English Language and Literature, was appointed as the fifth director.
2002 October The “Language and Information Development Institute” was renamed the “Yonsei Institute of Language and Information Studies”.
2002 October
2003 March “Language and Information Studies” and “Lexicography Research” , the institute’s journals, were integrated into one publication, and renamed as “Language, Information and Lexicography”.
2003 September
2003 September The institute wasreformed as a 7 center system.
2003 December “Language, Information and Lexicography” Vol. 12 and 13 were published.
2005 June “Language, Information and Lexicography” Vol. 14-16 were published.
2005 December Started compiling (tentatively named) “Yonsei Donga Elementary English-Korean Dictionary”.
2006 October Started compiling (tentatively named) “Yonsei Donga Elementary Chinese Character Dictionary”.
2007 January “Donga Yonsei Elementary English-Korean Dictionary” was published.
2007 December “Language, Information and Lexicography” Vol. 17-21 were published.
2008 February “Donga Yonsei Elementary Chinese Character Dictionary” was published.
2008 April Ha-Soo Kim, a professor at the department of Korean Language and Literature, was appointed as the sixth director.
2008 June “Language, Information and Lexicography” Vol. 22 was published.
2008 August Provided Elementary Dictionary Series (Korean, English and Chinese characters) service on Daum Communications portal site.
2008 December First issue of the webzine “Korean+” was published.
2009 March Started compiling Yonsei Monitoring Corpus after 1995
2009 April Second issue of the webzine “Korean+” was published.
2009 April Started ‘SKT-YONSEI Corpus’ Project for Korean-English and Korean-Chinese Automatic Translation (Daum Soft Project)
2009 May ‘Language, Information and Lexicography’ was changed to ‘Language Facts and Perspectives’, and Vol. 23 was published.
2009 July Started Professional Standardization.
2009 August Chosen for the Preliminary Research Project for Selecting Basic Vocabularies for Education funded by the National Institute of the Korean Language.
2009 September Third issue of the webzine “Korean+” was published.
2009 November Selected for the Humanities Korea Project by the National Research Foundation of Korea (Humanities Linguistics for the Creation of Complex Knowledge and Communication).
2009 November ‘Language Facts and Perspectives’ Vol. 24 was published.
2010 January Announced recruitment of six Humanities Korea research officers.
2010 January Signed MOU with Humanities Korea
2010 April Installed unmanned security system and access control system (ADT CAPS).
2010 April Selected for the project ‘The Research on Korean Textbooks Used in English-Speaking Countries for Developing Standard Korean Textbooks’.
2010 May ‘Language Facts and Perspectives’ Vol. 25 was published.
2010 November ‘Language Facts and Perspectives’ Vol. 26 was published.
2011 2011 January Started producing the revised edition of the Yonsei Elementary Korean Dictionary.
